IT teams and solution providers use VirtualBox to reduce operational costs and shorten the time needed to securely deploy. In this video, I will walk you through the steps of installing Android Virtualbox. ES > local > you will find new USB listed here, click on that, select allow ES to use this USB storage, BANG, you can share files through USB storage. Oracle VM VirtualBox, the world’s most popular open source, cross-platform, virtualization software, enables developers to deliver code faster by running multiple operating systems on a single device. Disable mouse pointer integration for the virtual machineġ6. Go to virtualbox > settings > USB > add usb device connected to your computer. Choose to run Android x86 and wait for it to start up (consider unmounting iso image too)ġ5. Select Yes for /system directory read-writeġ4. Confirm installation of boot loader GRUBġ3. Network Adapter 1: NAT (eth0 - for ordinary network access from android) In VirtualBox create a new virtual machine: There are many there, but for these instructions: Ensure VirtualBox, the Android SDK, Eclipse, and the ADT are installed appropriately. (It's unlikely that the steps couldn't be adapted to work with VMWare or similar.)Ġ. Therefore it is not a long term solution for running Android apps where you want to keep the data - unless the app provides a full backup/restore mechanism and you're willing to manually trigger the backup regularly - that said, I believe that you can also sign in to Google Play within the AVD and then Android's backup mechanism might work, if the app supports it - but I don't bother signing in on any of mine, so have never tested this.įor testing a single app, it could well be overkill.Below are some notes on getting Android x86 working on VirtualBox (thanks to Gothi for the original suggestion and tips in getting it all working!). Note that the AVDs can also be quite fragile, and end up requiring a hard reset or a rebuild, which results in the app and/or app data being reset. In fact nearly everything can be emulated, from GPS location to the camera, with fake results generated for you. WiFi and Mobile data is emulated through the host PCs network adapter. The first thing we must do to install Android with VirtualBox is to create a virtual machine, a virtual machine where we are going to install Android, for this we go to the top menu, click on New and then the different options that we can set will be shown, options that you I show below: Name: In this section we must establish the name with. Depending on the requirements of the app, you may then have issues with the emulated hardware. To side-load an app, you need to get hold of the APK, upload it to the AVD, the use the internal file browser to open the file, which will install it. You then have a standard version of Android (as opposed to a Samsung version of it), which you can test things with. To do this, you need to download a lot of tools (within AS) and the relevant Android SDK, then create a device with the screen size of your preference, etc. So it's a full blown IDE, which in order to aid testing of the apps being developed, has the capability of creating and running AVDs (Android Virtual Devices). As mentions, Android Studio is a developer tool, in fact it's THE development tool for Android apps nowadays, since pretty much all support for Eclipse has gone. Will this Android VM app once installed on my Desktop PC have the ability to simulate a WiFi connection using my Desktop PC's Ethernet connection? I hope somebody in the community can clarify this matter for me because it is not clear to me if the WiFi on my Virtual Android smart phone is going to work or not. Lastly, my desktop PC only has an Ethernet connection.
